Holmes on trial

Imagine a football star, 22 years old, with all the success ahead of him, on the verge of fulfilling his dreams of turning into a recognized star and now being involved in legal problems. What a way to screw up!

Santonio Holmes the first round draft choice of Pittsburg Steelers was ordered to stand trial next August 15. The reason is for stemming charges on assault and domestic violence incident which supposedly happened in June 19 concerning the mother of his five months year old baby.

Michael Brandt, Columbus Municipal Court Judge, set the date even when the victim is refusing to testify against Holmes, despite the situation the woman does not want to proceed with the charges. Holmes paid a $3.500 bond to remain free.

The worst thing for the player is that if the trial’s date remains, Holmes will be forced to leave the Steelers less than 3 weeks into his first NFL training camp.

But this is not the only case that involves Holmes and the law. He also has a hearing next Wednesday in Miami Beach for charges on disorderly conduct as a result of his arrest on Memorial Day weekend. This kind of behavior makes Holmes’ reputation to fall down and to be in real problems with the NFL, it could bring sanctions before he ever plays his first regular-season game.

Most people know how important is for a lot of college players to be picked up in a NFL draft, it can be the highest dream to reach for them on their careers, and the question remains … why some players do not take advantage of this kind of opportunities?

Artists biographies on film top movies about visual artists

Visual artists biographies is a popular theme in the movie world. Moviemakers have always been fascinated by visual artists biographies, especially if it includes struggle with insanity, drug addiction or social conventions. In addition, it gives them an opportunity to depict original or resurrected artworks on the big screen.

Here you can read about some of the most interesting movies about visual artists biographies.

Lust for Life directed by Vincente Minnelli in 1952

Vincent Van Gogh biography had gained several cinematic adaptations. Lust for Life with Kirk Douglas as the struggling artist is one of the most notable. The movie is based on a best selling book by Irving Stone, who also authored The Agony and the Ecstasy about Michelangelo, which also had appeared on the silver screen.

If you are a fan of Van Gogh artwork, you would enjoy watching Last for Life, which features almost 200 of Van Goghs original paintings. However, if you are familiar with Kirk Douglas previous filmographic, seeing him as a tortured Dutch painter might take a little adjustment. Another recommended film about Van Gogh is Robert Altmans Vincent and Theo from 1990.

Surviving Picasso directed by James Ivory in 1996

Like Van Gogh, Pablo Picasso image made him an iconic figure outside the artistic circles. While Van Gogh symbolizes the self destructive, manic depressive artist who achieves success only after his death, Picasso represents the misanthropic and womanizer artist. Picasso infamous relationship with women is the focus of this Merchant and Ivory film. The story is told from the eyes of Picasso mistress Francoise Gilot and features only reproductions of Picasso works. With Anthony Hopkins talent and his physical resemblance to Picasso, Surviving Picasso manages to create an unflattering portrait of an artist as a cruel, self centered genius.

Girl with Pearl Earring directed by Peter Webber in 2003

Comparing to Van Gogh and Picasso, Vermeers biography is less known and less controversial. Therefore Girl with Pearl Earring is much more restrained and delicate. The movie focuses on a short period in Vermeers life in which he was painting the portrait of his young low class maid. Although Girl with Pearl Earring does not avoid filmic conventions by over dramatizing Vermeers painting process, the movie is worth watching if only for its artistic design, which success in evoking Vermeers perception of light and color.

Basquiat directed by Julian Schnabel in 1996

The most common critique against movies that deals with visual arts is the way they depict the creation process. Therefore, there were big expectations from Basquiat, which was directed by the celebrated painter Julian Schnabel. Schnabel did well in depicting Jean Michelle Basquiat rise and fall story in less the predictable manner we have seen millions time before. However, the only reason to watch Basquiat is David Bowie plays the role of Andy Warhol.

Frida directed by Julie Taymor in 2002

Like most of the visual artists who had their life story appear on the silver screen, Frida Kahlo carried an unusual biography, which includes bus accident, problematic marriage, and an affair with Leon Trotsky. Like Van Gogh, Picasso and Jackson Pollock, who was the subject of a biopic from 2000, Frida Kahlo was an icon long before Frida was released, but the 123 minutes film did help to strength her position as a feminist idol and probably the most famous woman painter of the 20 century. Frida tries its best to integrate Frida Kahlo life story with her painting and the result is very colorful and pleasant, but still does not stay far enough from the conventions of depicting artists on film.

Weaker sales seen for third quarter

AUTOMAKERS REPORTED WEAK SEPTEMBER VEHICLE SALES against a backdrop of continued economic headwinds. Still, some automakers -- especially those with new models automakers -- fared better than those without new wares. General Motors, Nissan and Honda reported gains; Ford, Toyota and Chrysler saw declines. Total industry sales in September ran at a seasonally adjusted rate of 16.23 million units compared with 16.60 million in September last year.

"This month was pretty much in line with what we expected," said Jesse Toprak, executive director of Edmunds. com's industry analysis. "Auto manufacturers that saw the most gains had new or freshened models -- GM with the Cadillac CTS and new crossovers, Honda with the Accord, Nissan with the Altima."

One surprise, Toprak noted, was the strength of the luxury segment, surprising because of weakness in the housing market, higher gas prices and the interest rate crunch. "Those factors didn't effect buyers of new luxury vehicles," Toprak noted.

GM, Ford and Chrysler captured 52.3 percent market share in September, down from 55.1 percent in September 2006 and up from 52.1 percent in August.

September Market Share for the Big 6 Automakers of GM 25.6%

Toyota Market Share 16.3%

Ford Market Share 14.4%

Chrysler Market Share 12.2%

Honda Market Share 9.2%

Nissan Market Share 7.2%

To help with sluggish sales, General Motors Corp. has added some new incentives on its large pickups and sport-utility vehicles for October following its second-straight month of sales gains, Bloomberg News reported today. The offers of $1,000 cash rebates on such vehicles as the 2007 and 2008 Chevrolet Silverado large pickup and GMC Envoy SUV, began Tuesday and run through the end of the month, GM spokesman John McDonald told Bloomberg.

GM also extended through Oct. 31 its offer of zero-percent financing for up to five years on some SUVs and large pickups, McDonald said. The $1,000 cash rebates are in addition to other incentives and can't be used with the zero-percent loans.

More on penis enlargement

For all men, it is almost certain to say that the achievement of sexual pleasure comes not only from being able to penetrate and ejaculate inside a woman but also from being able to provide a partner with more than the equal pleasure and satisfaction. This is because sex is not only a physical interaction but also a psychological one. Men feel more masculine and more adequate if they’re able to make their women happy.

Recent studies showed that women do not really care that much about penis size. Although sexual performance matters more in bed, it was also found that bigger penises cause more visual stimulation to women. Men who have bigger penises (more than the average) are also found to be more confident and at ease with their masculinity though some men indicated that they are contented even with a small or average-sized penis.

But more than the research findings, your personal view and perception of your own adequacy count more. Do you really think that you measure up? Or if your penis could talk, do you think it would desperately call for Help!?

A lot of solutions are currently offered to men who deal with problems of small penis size. Apparent are product and/or program endorsements in magazines, tabloids, internet, and on television. All of these promise to answer the need of several men to become more adequate and more fulfilling sex partners.

One of the hottest items among penis enlargement patrons at the moment is the penis pills and capsules. The producers of these mainly herbal-based concoctions say they can increase the size of the penis by up to half its current size. These penis pills vary in ingredients, usually including a number of herbal extracts, minerals and vitamins.

Yohimbe is often the active component in most of penis pills. It is grown in Africa and has been the subject of several studies conducted by medical laboratories. Being an alkaloid, Yohimbe is claimed to be both an aphrodisiac and a general sexual tonic boosting sex drive, potency and stamina. It can also assist with blood circulation. Because erectile function is basically about blood circulation, it is likely that Yohimbe could also have an effect on the erectile function of the penis, resulting in harder, and therefore larger, erections.

There are also some other natural herbs included in making penis pills aside from Yohimbe. Every one of them claims to have an effect in increasing the size of your penis. And because they are natural, they are safe to use although if you have a case or history of heart illness, it is better to get your physician’s advice first before taking any of them.

A positive approach to pay per click advertising

In a virtual marketplace, search engine plays an imperative role in bringing success to online business since most of the searches for products and services are done through search engines. Therefore, we can easily make out how important it is to get a secure position in a search engine result listing page if one has to excel in online business.

Just making an appealing and content saturated website using soothing colors never seems profitable. Your site must undergo search engine optimization (SEO) process with the help of search engine optimizers to make it compatible enough to appear in an influential position in a search engine result page (SERP).

However, SEO is not a process of eating a ripe fruit but it involves process of showing a seed, watering the germinated plant constantly, letting it flower that converts to a fruit and ultimately eating a ripe fruit. Hence for any SEO strategies to show some result, it may take time varying from 2 or 3 months to a year or more. But, the people who are impatient to go ahead with SEO process and want instant online visibility and Web traffic to their website, they can opt for services like pay per click.

Pay per click gives a guaranteed listing of your website in SERP and it is a process of advertising your website in such a way where you are charged nothing for advertising but will be charged for each click made by the visitors. You are allowed to select the keywords and bid on it. Higher the bidding rate, greater will be the chances of appearing your website at the top of sponsor listing of SERP.

Today, the concept of pay per click has become so popular that it is gaining popularity almost similar to organic listing of website. Because pay per click is a perfect way of getting filtered traffic where chances of online traffic conversion to potential buyer is maximum. There are many PPC management firms that offers cheap keyword bidding rate but never make a mistake by choosing short and common keywords, instead try to make your selection little different than your competitors but approachable to visitors.

But pay per click could not remain sacred to give impeccable service to its users. Affiliate search engine website which implements search engine’s result onto their website has adopted a faulty way of making repeated clicks in order to gain increased revenue from paid listing.

Again, in order to expel the rival from the search engine completely, strong competitors started making repeated clicks on sponsored listing just to make their advertising approach more expensive and unaffordable.

To your respite, there are number of companies like ClickRisk. com, ClickDetective. net that offer tools to detect fraud clicks and other sites like KeyWordMax. com, ClickLab offer services like return on investment tracking and website analytics.

From this month (March) onwards, Google is set to allow advertisers to blacklists IP addresses of doubtful clicks and is likely to lunch an online resource centre that educate and guide advertisers fight back and tackle the issue of click fraud.

Whatever may be the case; you can not deny the effectiveness of pay per click advertising and keep yourself away fearing the possible fraud. Unless and until you fought the battle, you can not guarantee the victory or defeat. So, go ahead with pay per click advertisement if you are in immediate need of online traffic.

Middle east peace is an oxymoron

The phrase Middle East and the word peace are so contradictory that when put together they become an oxymoron. An oxymoron, as defined by the American Heritage Dictionary, is "a rhetorical figure in which incongruous or contradictory terms are combined". There are very few things in this world that are more contradictory than the words "Middle East peace."

As long as there are Christians and Jews in this world, the fundamentalist Islamic Arabs will never allow peace. The Koran states, under 5:54, "O believers, take not Jews and Christians as friends; they are friends of each other. Those of you who make them his friends is one of them.", under 8:39, "Make war on them until idolatry is no more and Allah's religion reigns supreme.", under 9:123, "Believers: Make war on the infidels who dwell around you. Let them find harshness in you.", under 2:191, "Slay them wherever ye find them and drive them out of the places whence they drove you out.", Fighting is obligatory for you, much as you dislike it.". As long as there are Muslims that believe in these orders, there can not and will not be 'Middle East peace'.

Even if the fundmentalist Islamics managed to destroy every Christian and Jew in the world, there would still not be peace in the Middle East. Islam has several sects, ie: Shia, Sunni, Sufi, Kahrijite, Wahhabi, Nizari (also known as "Assassins") and more. Many sects believe that followers of other sects are non believers because they follow the wrong sect. The only thing that keeps them from destroying each other is the old saying, 'an enemy of my enemy is my friend'. As long as there are Christians and Jews to hate, they will, pretty much, leave each other alone.

Ever since the State Of Israel was recognized by the United Nations, the Arab countries have been trying to "push Israel into the sea". Many Arab leaders have publicly stated that "they will not be satisfied untill Israel no longer exists". Many Arab leaders openly support the Palestinian terrorists that use homicide bombers, car bombs and rockets to maim and kill innocent Jewish women and children. They even consider the killing of Westerners an added bonus. Since many fundamentalists believe that "unbelievers are enemies of Allah and they will roast in hell" and that "the idolators are unclean", they believe that 'unbelievers' and 'hypocrites' are less than human and that their lives are worthless. The fundamentalists believe that it is their duty to punish the unbelievers wherever they find them.

I realize that not all Muslims are fundamentalists and that many Muslims would embrace peace. The problem is that the fundamentalists are so harsh and so ruthless that most peace seeking Muslims in the Arab world are afraid to cross them, afraid that they will be considered 'friends' of the unbelievers or 'hypocrites' and punished accordingly. Therefore, they keep quiet and the fundamentalists continue to rule the Arab world. The few Arabs that do attempt to stand up for true peace usually end up in prison or dead.

Some Arab countries are considered to have secular governments, ie: Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Syria, and, as such, would presumably be free of fundamentalism interference. The fact is, none of these governments could stay in power without the assistance of, or at least the tacit approval of, the fundamentalists. Each of these countries is rife with fundamentalism, note all of the homicide bombers and terrorists that are exported from these countries. If the leaders of these countries did not have the approval of the fundamentalists, they would be assassinated and new leaders would be elected or installed. Saudi Arabia claims to be our friend and ally, yet many of their religious schools preach terrorism and a large number of terrorist leaders come from that country. Egypt has a signed peace accord with Israel, yet arms are smuggled in to the Palestinians every day from Egypt. Syria is the largest supporter of the Hezbollah group and is also one of the largest exporters of terrorists into Iraq.

The United States has been trying to "win the hearts and minds" of the Arab people for decades. We provide aid in the form of money, we gave Arafat huge sums of money in order to 'help' the Palestinians and he kept most of it for himself, we gave Hussein money to help feed his people and he used it to line his pockets and to pay the families of homicide bombers and we give billions of dollars in aid to Egypt and although they talk peace they still support terrorism. We pour money by the bucket full into Iraq and they elect an Islamic based government instead of a secular government. In addition, we pressure Israel, our only true ally in the Middle East, to give up land and security in the name of peace, even though we know that the Islamic fundamentalists will never make peace with Israel.

I may be wrong, but I don't believe that the fundamentalists will ever allow the United States to "win the hearts and minds" of the Arab people. We can and probably should make them fear us. We can't and won't make them love us. The fundamentalists will never allow their people to love us any more than they will allow 'Middle East peace'. It goes against their religious principles. They are fanatics and will fight to their last breath. As far as they are concerned if they die, fighting us, they will go to Paradise. If they live they can go on fighting the 'unbelievers' and 'hypocrites' thereby fulfilling Allah's wishes.

Toronto heating and air conditioning

Ask anyone from any part of the world if he/she can survive the chill of the winter months without furnaces or fireplaces or if they can spend the scorching summer afternoons, without switching on the air conditions. If the answer is a big ‘No’, then we can easily say that having air conditions and furnaces in the room is indeed not a luxury - it is a necessity. In every part of the world, domestic air conditioning is a common feature, especially in the heat of the summer. The demand of the air conditions is especially high in areas where most of the people live in small high rise flats.

Toronto is located in the southern part and in close proximity to Lake Ontario. This makes the climate of Toronto is little bit moderate from the rest parts of Canada. Toronto enjoys a humid continental climate, which means hot and humid summers and chilly winters. Thus, it is understood that Toronto people need air conditioning to maintain the indoor air quality in summer and fireplaces and furnaces in winter to survive the cold.

In the cooler months, fireplaces are almost the central feature of every household. It is certainly a much needed part of the survival strategy in the extended winter. Still in the age of electric room heater, the traditional wood fireplace has an exceptional appeal with the sensuous direct heat and the flickers. Fireplaces have a remarkable place in the traditional culture of Toronto and also in places like Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Markham, Thornhill, and Brampton and other parts. There is no comfort that can be compared to a family conversation surrounding a fireplace in a winter evening.

Fireplaces were also much popularized in the past, when the then President Franklin Delano Roosevelt's "fireside chats", a weekly radio addresses became popular during the great depression. It was meant for the family gathering around the fireplace. Fireplace is obviously not just a structure occupying some places. The mantels are the places to be decorated. If these places are decorated properly, the fireplaces and the accessories add an aesthetic appeal to the interior of a household. The decoration often carries its own statement that adds a unique charm to the room.

One of the widely used fireplace accessory is the fireplace screen. These screens are used in all the Toronto households in winter to prevent the burning embers from spoiling the rugs or carpets or injuring someone around when it pops out. A clean and finely structured screen can change the complete ambience of the room. No matter you are using one or not, the screen is a must for fireplace. In order to maintain the new look of the screen it is important that the ashes and the smoke marks are removed from it regularly. Fireplace accessories are mainly made for the wood fireplaces including poker to move the logs, tongs to pick the burning logs, shovel and broom to clean the ashes and racks to hold the logs. There are some others like, grates, chimney caps, and fireplace candles. A fireplace blower is another important accessory for fireplace. It is necessary to increase the heat the fire produce and to spread it through the room. With the accessory, the heat does not go into the chimney or in the bricks only, but it spreads heat equally through out the room and gives warmth in the chilly night.

Fireplace accessories are available in several materials and numerous fashions. But the most fashionable and most popular are the ones that are made of cast iron. These are long lasting, and are available within an affordable price range. Some other materials are nickel, brass, chrome, and pewter. You can select anything that is best for your requirement.

In the homes of Toronto two types of air conditions are used mainly – window and split. Split ACs is comparatively new additions to the domestic households. But this kind of air conditioner is more expensive than the other types. Window air conditioners are based in a window as the heat enters the room and it cools the heat wave in the room. It can make the air cool and comfortable only in the room where it is located. More expensive and more powerful system can cool the room surrounding it. Spilt air conditioners are to be put on the walls of a room. It does not need any wall to be placed. Window models are common feature of old households.

The office buildings and some new households have central air conditioning system. Central air conditioning system cools the air of the whole area concerned though the actual cooling unit is located somewhere outside the construction. There is a thermostat to check and control the temperature in the house. In the older model the temperature is adjusted manually whereas in the latest models the temperature is programmed to change at different times of the day. It helps to save the electricity bill and also make the house comfortable with a balanced temperature between hot and cold. It keeps the house warm when the house is empty. Though this system is thought to consume more electricity among the three mentioned here, the central air conditioning system is more energy efficient than the other two.

One can find air conditioning in the car as well today. This keeps the interior of a car comfortable, especially when you are on a long drive. People often try to get the comforts with rolling down the glass. But it is not at as much comfortable as air condition. Often the wind outside is noisy that can spoil your concentration while you are driving. If you are driving through a colder zone, rolling down the window will not be a wise idea. The air condition inside can offer you much warmer surrounding than the chilly outside.

Sometimes the air condition may not work properly. At such times, it is better to go for the repairing work when the damage is low. If the problem becomes grave it means more hazards and more expensive repair and replacement at times.
