Weight loss surgery to treat diabetes

Weight loss surgery is a treatment to cure diabetes.

According to the American Diabetes Association, nearly 21 million people in the United States have type 2 diabetes. About fifty four million are estimated to have elevated blood sugar levels and are classified as having “pre-diabetes.” Most cases of type 2 diabetes are a result of being overweight. By being overweight the body does not respond appropriately to blood levels of insulin, and in some people the insulin levels are lower than normal. This leads to the body being unable to regulate its blood sugars appropriately.

Several studies have shown that weight loss surgery can cure type II diabetes. A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association in 2004 showed that type II diabetes was eliminated in nearly 77% of weight loss surgery patients.

A study published in the New England Journal of Medicine in August 2007 showed that deaths from diabetes were reduced 92% in patients who underwent weight loss surgery, when compared with equally obese people who did not have the surgery.

It is becoming more apparent that weight loss surgery may be the answer to metabolic diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes. This revolutionary way of thinking is changing the approach to the management of type 2 diabetes. Medicines such as insulin and hypoglycemic drugs simply mask the symptoms by keeping blood sugar levels low. Weight loss surgery has a chance to lead to a cure.

A recent summit was held in Rome, Italy with over two dozen medical organizations to review the evidence of weight loss surgery on diabetes. The conference participants are expected to release a consensus statement regarding the role of weight loss surgery as a possible treatment for type 2 diabetes.

Several options exist for weight loss surgery and the two most popular are the gastric bypass, and adjustable gastric banding.

Mc donald s and las vegas became huge businesses using promotional marketing

Promotional marketing is a great way to build your business. Promotional marketing is often overlooked by many business owners. McDonald's and Las Vegas Casinos have taken full advantage of promotional marketing techniques and you should do the same. Promotional marketing can be very effective when employed correctly. We will take a look at a couple of companies who use promotional marketing in their marketing campaign. Many successful companies understand the whole point of business is to get you in the door. If you notice Las Vegas does not advertise their slot machines or game boards, instead they advertise the Las Vegas lifestyle. They just want to get you there, full well knowing once you are there you will gamble.

First let's look at McDonald's. McDonald's does not have the best tasting food or the healthiest food but McDonald's is still one of the most successful restaurant chains today. Why? Two reasons first McDonald's buys

real estate in key locations and second they employ effective promotional marketing techniques. Let's take a look at the techniques they use. If you notice McDonald's does not list the benefits of eating their food, why? Their food is not the best food around so they can't. Instead they have a ton of promotional techniques. Remember the beanie baby craze? This was started by McDonald's. McDonald's just sold new beanie babies every week. These beanie babies were going on Ebay for hundreds of dollars. Do you see the whole strategy behind this? See all they wanted was to get you in the door. Full well knowing once you were inside of a McDonald's you would most likely also buy a hamburger and fries besides just a beanie baby. They also employ the same strategy with their Value Meals, Happy Meals, Monopoly Game Sweepstakes, and Dollar Menu.

Next let's look at Las Vegas. Las Vegas casino's are masters at using effective promotional marketing. Las Vegas Casino's are their for one reason and one reason only and that is to make money. Las Vegas casino's do not advertise about gambling, instead they focus on the Vegas lifestyle. "What Happens In Vegas Stays In Vegas!" is one slogan they have going. They advertise the free rooms, the Vegas nightlife, the Vegas shows, and boxing matches. Their whole goal is just to get you inside of their casino. Knowing full well once you are inside the odds are in their favor you will gamble and lose. It's genius marketing.

Now granted you may not have the spending budget of a McDonald's or Las Vegas casino but you can still use promotional marketing for your business. For example you could give out a free Vegas vacation for the 1,000th customer. Or you could give out little things like a free car wash for the first 100 customers. The main thing to remember is to make sure you give out something of value and your promotional marketing efforts will be effective.

Your antibiotic one day to 10 day options

When you're sick, listen to your mother: go see your doctor and find out what illness you have and how to get better. If you're diagnosed with a bacterial infection, your doctor can provide a host of treatment options, which may include antibiotics.

To treat a bacterial illness such as sinusitis or an ear infection, your doctor might prescribe a regimen of antibiotics to kill the bacteria and help you feel better faster. Antibiotics come in several dosing schedules ranging from a single dose, to twice a day up to multiple doses a day for more than a week. You may be tempted to ask your doctor for a medication with the fewest number of doses, but there are other factors your doctor may consider.

When your doctor prescribes an antibiotic, he or she will consider the drug's efficacy in treating the specific infection and the potential side effects to determine the best medicine for you. Among the commonly prescribed antibiotics are cephalosporins, some of which are effective against sinusitis, skin infections, ear infections and other bacterial infections, and are generally well-tolerated.

Your doctor may determine that single-dose medicines are not necessarily the best for your infection. One-day doses may not be currently recommended by expert guidelines as good treatment options for your infection. If these medicines do not completely eliminate the infection and the infection remains, it may become immune to the medicine leading to what experts call "antibiotic resistance."

Remembering to take the full course of a prescription is important even if you feel better after a few days. Taking the full course of the medicine maintains the effectiveness of the drug, killing the bacteria causing the infection, while helping to reduce the risk of resistance. If you suspect you may have a bacterial infection, talk to your doctor about the best antibiotic for you-especially one with convenient dosing options and one that is generally well-tolerated.

How to have a great time gambling without losing your money

Gambling in a casino or online casino is supposed to be for fun, but for many people the casino is the place where some machine eats all their money, and they are broke after the first hour and have to go to the ATM to get more money.

If you are not an experienced gambler it may be best to stick to the slot machines, but the fact is that the casinos make most of their money from those one armed bandits.

The easiest game in the casino is Roulette. The object of roulette is to guess what number the little ball will land on, which is not easy but there are other bets to make. In roulette you can bet on the color of the number the ball will land on, and since there are only 2 colors on the board it is a much safer bet. You can also bet on whether the ball will land on an even or odd number.

If you are not an expert gambler and just want to have a good time you can also play keno. Keno is much like the lottery. You have a card marked with numbers 1 to 100, and depending on the amount you want to spend and the game you play determines on how many of the number you get to pick. A computer picks the numbers and if you have at least 5 correct numbers you will win some of your money back.

I would recommend staying away from the poker rooms, but there is one poker game that is mostly newbie friendly, Red Dog Poker. The game is very simple to play. the dealer gives out 2 cards, and the player has to bet if the next card will fall in between the first 2, an example of this is you are dealt a 5 and a queen, so you have to bet on if the next card will be a 6 to a jack, the smaller the distance between the cards the more money you will win if you are right. If your cards are a 5 and a 9 and you win you will win less then if your cards were a 5 and a 7 and the next card is a 6. You may never become a millionaire from playing Red Dog Poker, but it is lots of fun and you can sit at the table for hours without spending much money, and it can be lots of fun.

One of my favorite things to do in the casinos or online sportsbooks is to play the horses. You do not need to be a genius or have been going to the track for years to pick a winner, all the information on the horse and jockey is displayed in an easy to understand way so you can have all the information you need to pick a winner, and for a few 2 dollar bets you can spend an entire evening in a casino or sportsbook for less then 50 dollars.

Prevent heartache use anti-virus software

Anti-virus software is a way of life in modern computing practices. In an environment where most computer users are blissfully unaware of security, a good anti-virus package is the first line of defense for your computer. There are several vendors who make and sell it, and all of them have excellent products.

Among the top vendors are Computer Associates, Symantec, McAfee and Trend Micro. Even Microsoft is getting into the anti-virus gig with Windows Protection. Microsoft's recent acquisition of GeCad in Bucharest is the foundation of their offering, plus a bunch of other small vendors to handle other corners of the computer security panoply. Trillions of electrons have been inconvenienced on the internet as pundits are exploring Microsoft's offerings in light of their historic "acquire and extend" strategy with utility software, and a number of pundits are wondering if, with the insecurities inherent in the Windows architecture, whether having Microsoft selling the anti-virus remedies that its OS makes necessary isn't a bit of a predatory practice.

Most Anti-virus software works by running a deep scan on your computer, looking for telltale signatures of virus infection. As a result, they need a virus signature file, most of which are downloaded regularly from their sites. An alarming trend is that more and more of the major market leaders in this software segment are treating these signature files as proprietary information, rather than sharing it. This may result in a situation where you need more than one AV package for complete coverage. One of the interesting counter trends are the suites of free anti-virus software, like GriSoft's AVG, which share virus definitions daily to give the most comprehensive coverage. It's known that Windows Protection uses these announcements, but Microsoft doesn't release its AV signature files for others to use.

The other scary trend is that the people who write viruses have graduated from vandals and script kiddies to organized crime. The Department of Defense treats virus protection very seriously (as anyone who's used a DoD computer, and dealt with the security can attest), and they regard bot nets and DdoS (Distributed denial of Service) attacks as being very serious threats to our nation's war fighting capabilities. This means that there's now an incentive to make bigger and better virus software doing more things, and it's getting harder to stop.

If you get hit by a virus that goes active, your options are very limited – unless you have a regular backup procedure in place. The biggest cause of heartache in computing is inadequate backups. Even if it's something relatively simple like backing up your working directory onto a DVD, it's worth the effort. Fortunately, there are online subscription services that will let you back up your data over the internet. The first upload normally takes a long stretch of time, even over broadband. After that, they run as a background process and only update the things that have changed in your configuration. The new version of MacOS X, Leopard, has this sort of functionality built in with Time Machine. There is no equally easily usable version for Windows.

If you're comfortable with opening up your computer's case, and swapping out hard drives, there is a brute force backup you can do – plug in an extra hard drive, and copy your Windows and User directories to it; you can use Windows Task Manager to set up an automated job to do this every week, copying only the files that are different, and it can be a life saver.
